ATM Safety
- Utilize ATMs only at secure locations.
- Avoid being alone. Try to use ATMs with others around or a friend.
- Look around. If you feel uncomfortable or suspicious... leave or come back later.
- Have your ATM card out of your wallet/purse before approaching the ATM for use.
- Don't keep your PIN on your card or in your wallet/purse.
- Withdraw only small amounts of cash.
- When entering your PIN shield the keypad with your body or hand.
- Never give your PIN out. A helpful stranger could be an identity thief.
- Put your cash away immediately before leaving the ATM. Do not count the cash at the ATM.
- Always take your receipt.
- Avoid unsecure, unlit and poorly placed ATMs.
- If you think you are being followed, go to a well populated area and call the police.
- If confronted by a robber, don't argue, give the money to the robber. Take note of their description.
- Do not follow a robber. Money is never worth getting hurt over.
- If robbed, leave the area as soon as it's safe to do so, and report the incident to the police.
Night Deposit Safety
- If you must exit your vehicle park as close to the Night Depository as possible.
- Avoid being alone. Try to use a Night Depository with others around or a friend.
- Look around. If you feel uncomfortable or suspicious... leave or come back later.
- Prepare your night deposit before going to the bank.
- Try not to make your deposit at the same time every day, use a variable schedule if possible.
- Make a record of your night deposit at home, never the bank.
- Never show your night deposit. Always keep it hidden until you are able to make the deposit.
- If you must use a Night Depository at night, find a well lit Night Depository with no surrounding shrubbery.
- If you think you are being followed, go to a well populated area and call the police.
- If confronted by a robber. Don't argue, give the money to the robber. Take note of their description.
- Do not follow a robber. Money is never worth getting hurt over.
- If robbed, leave the area as soon as it's safe to do so, and report the incident to the police.
